El Maguey Mexican Restaurant

On a recent trip back from LA I stopped in San Juan Capistrano at this little place that was highly reviewed on Yelp. It mostly lived up to expectations, although not quite to the point of what was on Yelp. The salsa was the best part by far. I ordered the Enchiladas de Camaron (shrimp). The shrimp enchiladas I recently posted at Ricardo’s Place had more shrimp, but El Maguey had theirs smothered in a rich tomatillo sauce, which I appreciated. I’ll be back again to try my usual cheese enchilada and tamale, the true standard by which I judge Mexican restaurants.
