Food Observations

A blog for eaters

Rice King

Lived up here for over 13 years and today was my first trip to Rice King. Arrived shortly after 4pm and ordered a two item plate for $6.85.  Top right is spicy orange chicken (not at all spicy). It was probably the best thing here. Approaching Panda standard I would say, and that’s their signature dish.

Top left is broccoli beef. It looked like a hot mess but was surprisingly decent. The broccoli initially appeared so sad and pathetic, but they had a slightly firm, al dente bite to them. The beef was tender and flavorful. I finished it all.

Biggest let down was the chow mein. Noodles were too thick and somewhat gummy. Wasn’t even hot throughout, despite coming straight from the wok. Nowhere near Panda chow mein. I didn’t even eat half of it.

Service was really nice and friendly. There was an authentic Chinese woman working there which lent some credence for me. They give you a generous amount of food here. She about busted the seams filling up my tray.

Needless to say, I did not order the Chef’s Special or Kung Pao Chicken…
