Panya Thai Kitchen

Outstanding Pad Thai at Panya.  And so beautifully presented as well in lunch special form.  Very much like what I get at Pailin Thai.  I think these restaurants might be run by the same owner.  Very similar menu too.

Charm Thai Kitchen 

Panang curry at Charm was decent, but I think I’ll stick with the Pad Thai next time.  I do love how they so skillfully cut the carrots, etc. 

Miguel’s Cocina

Outstanding birria de res!  Very tender and flavorful.  


Pei Wei Asian Diner

Here’s a new sushi thing at Pei Wei they call the Kung Pao Shrimp Sushi.  It was outstanding!  The Pad Thai on the other hand is always loose and haphazardly constructed.  


Borrelli’s Pizza & Pasta

Outstanding hot Italian sammiches at this place they call Borrelli’s.  A nice slice of pizza is definitely in order for the next visit. 


Nuevo Grill & Cantina 

We had a pretty good dinner recently at Nuevo Grill & Cantina. I ordered the “Chimichanga Crispa”. Not sure what “crispa” means but it wasn’t very crispy.  The chimi starts with your choice of marinated sirloin or chicken breast, jack and cheddar cheeses, and refried beans. The whole affair is rolled into a flour tortilla, and “gently” fried to a golden brown. It’s then topped with ranchero sauce, diced maters, and scallions with sour cream on the side. I got the sirloin version for $13.49. I particularly like their grilled steak which is always lean and flavorful. 🙂

I requested “no beans” in my chimi and it came out made with beans. 😦 They quickly remade it. 

So, the menu says it’s gently fried and I can attest to that! I’m used to chimichangas that are quite a bit crispier and fried longer – this one wasn’t like that. It was still good, I liked it. Just not the classic taco shop chimichanga I’m accustomed to. I might try some of their burritos next time. 

Over the many years I’ve eaten here, there’s been a couple times where the chips change. I don’t know if it’s their supplier or what. Usually it’s consistent with their numerous “Best of Ramona – Chips & Salsa” awards. The chips this visit were terrible. Not their usual award winning chips, known for being hot and somewhat greasy. These were just flat and flavorless for some reason. I did notice that the salsa has a kick to it now! Used to be fairly bland, but last night’s salsa was perfect. Maybe they have a new salsa recipe. (Please go back to the old chip recipe) 

And of course I always love their big 25 ounce frosty draft beer mugs.

Phil’s BBQ

I just hate all the red lighting at Phil’s, I can never get a decent picture.  Always this hideous red cast.  Anyway, the beef ribs were huge, tasty and meaty along with the best mac salad in town!  Highly recommend getting an order of onion rings to share.  Some of the best I’ve had and not overly thick.  


Pad Thai Restaurant 

Since this place is called “Pad Thai” I figured I try its namesake dish.  Not the best version I’ve had but up there in the top 3 or 4.  Came out very al dente and tight.  

Ralph’s Fresh Fare

I may not eat sushi from a gas station, but a grocery store?  No problem!  Especially when it’s as good as Ralph makes it!

Which Wich

Quite possibly the biggest let down I’ve had at Which Wich.  The so-called surf & turf sammich.  Made with roast beef and lobster salad.  Turned out more like a vegetable sandwich.  If there were any proteins, it was hardly discernible.
