Reds, Whites & Brews

Reds Whites & Brews is one of my new favorite adult beverage purveyors in Ramona! They’re located in what was once called the “Pioneer Store,” a historical building on Main St. in Ramona, CA. It is the oldest structure in Old Town with its original construction dating back to 1883. It previously served as a waypoint for gold miners traveling from San Diego to Julian.

Such a comfortable and relaxing place with a perfect selection of local Ramona wines coupled with SoCal craft beers. I had an excellent hard cider from Turqouise Barn Cider, then an outstanding peanut butter stout. Everyone working there was genuine, knowledgable and sweet. Open 7 days a week. Totally worth checking out if you’re never been.

Nuevo Grill & Cantina

Best chips & salsa and dare I say, best happy hour in Ramona!

Smoking Cannon Brewery

After all the outstanding reviews recently (some less coherent than others), I had to go check out Smoking Cannon Brewery! Such a remarkable addition to Old Town Ramona! Love this place and it’s Civil War motif.

Reasonably priced “beer flight” was only $10. Included a selection of six unique and tasty beers. My favorite was definitely the American stout on nitro and Pecan Porter. Open Thursday – Sunday, right next to El Michoacan. Worth a visit for any beer fan!

Claim Jumper

Claim Jumper of all places served up one of the best looking and best tasting calzones I’ve had! Looks like a pillow for crying out loud! I definitely had to lay down after eating this!

Also including a photo of my son’s meal. Pretty amazing looking for kids menu fare…

Way Point Saloon

Surprisingly good clam chowder at Way Point Saloon! Loved the crispy, crumbled bacon on top. Very thick, hearty and lots of tender clams.

Boll Weevil

The venerable Steerburger at the Weev is hard to beat!  Especially when you add a few jalapeño slices.  Their great family meal deals are rounded out by a nice order of homely nachos.

Turkey Inn

Ramona’s quintessential dive bar, the Turkey Inn.  A local institution since 1938.  Today they still serve the cheapest drinks in Ramona.  Locals refer to it affectionately as “the bird”.  We visit every now and then, usually only after a recent tetanus shot.

Way Point Saloon

Way Point Saloon has the most impressive onion ring tower I’ve encountered!  What stands out for me is how hot & crispy they come out of the kitchen coupled with an outstanding fry sauce.  The rings here are beer battered and definitely in the top two of Ramona when it comes to onion rings.  23 draft beers on tap is a pretty good draw too!

Coyote Joe’s

Outstanding chips, salsa and cerveza at Coyote Joe’s on Catalina Island!

Buffalo Nickel Restaurant

Our favorite restaurant to eat at every time we visit Catalina Island is always Buffalo Nickel!  Aside from the amazing burgers and whatnot, they have a surprisingly good selection of Mexican food.  Here’s a great order of flautas and some outstanding chips & salsa!
