Wandering Griffin

I enjoyed a bar-food bonanza at Wandering Griffin in Beavercreek, OH! Outstanding, fatty fried cheese curds and an order of excellent chicken wings. This place is an impressive, spacious brewpub offering exceptional house-brewed craft beers. The space is expansive, contemporary and inviting. Will not be my last visit here during this trip, that I can tell you.

The Tavern

One of my favorite restaurants in Coronado is The Tavern. A great New American restaurant in The Crown City! This place has a number of outstanding small dishes. Here’s an excellent order of crispy chicken wings, so beautifully presented. Also below, an outstanding order of cavatappi mac & cheese with bacon!

Embassy Suites

Outstanding order of crispy chicken wings and a nice cucumber salad at 1440 Bistro inside the Embassy Suites LAX South in El Segundo!

Phil’s BBQ

Outstanding new BBQ chicken wings at Phil’s BBQ! I think they’re only available during happy hour though.

Omni Rancho Las Palmas

Outstanding hot, spicy chicken wings from the R Bar at Omni Rancho Las Palmas!

Way Point Saloon

Outstanding chicken wings at Way Point Saloon! Some of the best I’ve had in town, that I can tell you.

Buster’s Beach House

Outstanding happy hour appetizers at Busters. Here’s the chicken wings, onions strings and mac & cheese.  Great place to stop when visiting Seaport Village in San Diego!

Marinade on Main

Recently at Marinade on Main I tried the “Habanero Marmalade Wings”. Wings were huge and meaty, came out with 3 flats and 2 drummettes, tossed in a pineapple orange habanero sauce, topped with chives and crushed peanuts. You can order regular or spicy. I got spicy and it was just right, about a 5. This was an outstanding order of wings! Kind of messy though – I felt like I had to take a shower when I got home…

For dessert we tried the Butterscotch Pudding ($6). The pudding didn’t have a heavy butterscotch flavor, it was more subdued, topped with a daub of some kind of caramel sauce and crushed toffee candy. It’s cutely presented in a small 4oz mason jar resting atop a big wood plank. This was an excellent dessert, I just wish there was more! Seriously, the dish it’s served in could double as an ashtray when you’re done.

Way Point Saloon

A few months ago at Way Point Saloon I tried their recently introduced “Carolina BBQ Wings”. It’s their classic fried wings (or savory breaded strips) smothered in a sweet and tangy Carolina style BBQ sauce, $9.95.This was just an amazing order of wings. It’s a decent portion that includes an equal amount of drumettes and flats. Served with carrots, celery and ranch or blue cheese dressing.

Wings came out nice and hot! Still some crispiness in all the right places. Didn’t get all sogged out, etc. Loved the sauce! Tangy southern style BBQ sauce with a subtle bite of spicy heat.

Also photographed below is the outstanding Mountain Man burger.  I’ve reviewed that here before.  Gail’s usual order every time.

All this coupled with a great live band, and an ice cold Bud made for a great Saturday night in Ramona!

Outback Steakhouse

During this visit we sampled an assortment of outstanding appetizers and sides.  Impressive order of happy hour chicken wings.  You can never go wrong with the iconic bloomin’ onion.  And a pretty decent order of their new steakhouse mac & cheese.
