These Blizzard things have to be one of my favorite ice cream desserts ever! I think I could eat one every day! It’s probably a good thing I don’t. 😅
The Yogurt Barn is one of my favorite cold treat places in Ramona! Outstanding froyo here that you serve and top yourself. Can be kind of a cluster when there’s more than two people in line.
Recently I took Lady FoodObs back to D’Carlos Restaurant to get one of their outstanding chocolate eclairs. I have to say, this is probably one of the best desserts I’ve ever put in my mouth! This thing is huge; roughly the size of a small slipper or moccasin (about a men’s size 8). It’s only $6 and is served with a knife so you can cut it in half to share with your Hunny. (Tip for the guys: always take the smaller half!)
The eclairs at D’Carlos are filled with some sort of cream/custard filling, and a lot of it! The whole thing is then blanketed with an excellent warm, thick and rich chocolate sauce. Almost like a ganache.
I think what set this apart for me was the temperature contrast. The cold cream filling combined with the warm chocolate sauce made for an amazing oral sensation!
Recently at Marinade on Main I tried the “Habanero Marmalade Wings”. Wings were huge and meaty, came out with 3 flats and 2 drummettes, tossed in a pineapple orange habanero sauce, topped with chives and crushed peanuts. You can order regular or spicy. I got spicy and it was just right, about a 5. This was an outstanding order of wings! Kind of messy though – I felt like I had to take a shower when I got home…
For dessert we tried the Butterscotch Pudding ($6). The pudding didn’t have a heavy butterscotch flavor, it was more subdued, topped with a daub of some kind of caramel sauce and crushed toffee candy. It’s cutely presented in a small 4oz mason jar resting atop a big wood plank. This was an excellent dessert, I just wish there was more! Seriously, the dish it’s served in could double as an ashtray when you’re done.
Here’s a great pecan bar from Edelweiss Bakery. This place has been in business since 1967. Two locations in San Diego with a history of more than three decades serving some pretty elite clientele. What they put out is just amazing!
So happy to have such a great bakery close to the office so I can bring home some sweet treats to the family! No, these eclairs haven’t been there since 1967, but this great bakery has.
I’ll preface this by saying, this is NOT a donut review. While anticipating the opening of our DD, I really looked forward to the BR side of the house. After several visits I have not been disappointed. I don’t know if it’s a limited time special or a regular thing, but two scoops gets you a free waffle cone! That’s a pretty good deal. I usually get my two faves, Jamoca Almond Fudge and Pralines & Cream…
With so many new, young employees at any given time, service isn’t always top shelf 100% of the time. But I have yet to experience anything that left a lasting bad impression on me. For the most part everyone is hard working, on the ball and doing their best. They are always accommodating and patient with samples, etc. The ice cream line can be kind of a cluster with more that one or two families with kids in line.
