Excellent chicken potstickers and stunning views on the deck at The Par Lounge!
Outstanding dinner recently at Lienzo Charro in Poway! This place is a Poway institution, in business for more than a generation. Here’s a #10 combination plate; rolled tacos and cheese enchilada. Really good. Unfortunately their draft Modelo Especial wasn’t cold enough.
Lately I have been enjoying some great burgers in Ramona from some of our town’s well-known establishments/bars. Of all my visits to Marinade On Main though I’ve never tried their burger, until recently.
I ordered their “Signature Burger” and it was just outstanding! Farm raised chuck angus beef patty, cheddar, onion bacon jam, arugula, tomato, pickle and garlic aioli. Comes with hand-cut fries or pasta salad, $14.50. A farm fresh egg, avocado or bacon can be added to any burger or sandwich.
What stands out about this burger is its simplicity. The beef really shines through it all and it’s very clear to me that Marinade is using beef of a remarkable quality. From my understanding it’s a grass fed angus beef from a prairie farm in northern California.
The onion bacon jam is really good! Slightly sweet and smokey tasting. What comes on the burger was difficult for me to discern on its own so I’d recommend requesting some extra on the side.
Bun was an excellent bakery brioche style that was lightly toasted and stayed in tact throughout. Unfortunately the bun circumference was slightly larger than the beef patty. I like to see a more proportional bun/beef ratio.
Tremendous job from all the staff! I always see everyone working so hard and it’s very evident to me how much pride they take in the restaurant.
Outstanding dinner recently at The Par Lounge. Here’s the “Combo Platter” from the appetizer menu. It includes tater skins, fried mozzarella, onion rings and chicken tenders. Served with sides of ranch dressing, warm marinara and sour cream.
Comes with three skins which were great, crispy and hot with an ample amount of cheese. Could have used more bacon and green onions though. The fried cheese was a fairly conservative portion, but excellent nonetheless. Triangle shapes that yielded a perfect cheese pull. There was a very liberal amount of onion rings which is fine with me. For frozen, institutional rings, these are some of the best in town. Five crispy chicken tenders rounded it all out.
Now obviously this is a sea of fried brown goodness and not something you want to eat everyday! Occasionally though it’s a nice treat. The only other restaurant I eat at with this much brown on one plate would be Cracker Barrel. Good thing for my pants size there’s none close by. This whole platter is plenty for two hungry adults, or two average adults with picky child.
