Yard House

Excellent Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds at YH in Mission Valley! Also had a very tasty sammich & salad lunch special. Always an impressive selection of fine draft beers here.

The Par Lounge

Outstanding fish & chips at The Par Lounge in Ramona!

Rock & Brews

Outstanding calamari at Rock & Brews in El Segundo, CA!

Chicken Charlie’s Table

I expected the Duke of Deep-Fat-Fried would not disappoint when it comes to legit fish & chips and I was right! They were outstanding at Chicken Charlie’s Table in Rancho Bernardo. Yes, there are fries under all that fish LOL.

Chicken Charlie’s Table

I had never heard of a “lobster slipper tail” until Chicken Charlie showed me the way! Super delicious battered and deep fat fried.

Kountry Kitchen

There’s nothing more American than a big, beautiful country fried steak at Kountry Kitchen in Ramona, CA! Happy Independence Day 2019! 🇺🇸

Fish Fry!

I have lived in Ramona for 17 years and finally experienced one of our seminal annual culinary events! The Knights of Columbus Annual Lenten Fish Fry! Currently underway in their 24th year, taking place every Friday through Lent, 4-7 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 537 E Street.  The fish fries help raise money for charities supported by the Knights of Columbus, including Ramona Pregnancy Care Clinic, Ramona Food and Clothes Closet and Michael’s House.
The all-you-can-eat fish fry features your choice of beer battered fried fish or baked fish, fries or mashed taters, hushpuppy, rolls, slaw, etc. There’s even beer & wine available for purchase!  A thoughtful selection of bottled beers, including Guinness. If you prefer wine, I counted at least three boxes to choose from! I had the fried fish and it was outstanding.  Fries were crinkle-cut style (like Del Taco), hot and crispy. The AYCE fish dinners are only $13. Calm chowder is also available for $3. Only two more Fridays left to experience one of the best Fish Fry’s I’ve ever been to.

The Par Lounge

Outstanding Sriracha battered fish & chips at The Par Lounge in Ramona, CA!

The Par Lounge

I’ve been eating calamari at The Par Lounge for years. I’ve ridden the roller coaster of varying qualities they’ve put out. Sometimes excellent, sometimes it seemed like a bowling alley snack bar. The new menu at Par/OG features the outstanding appetizer “S&P Calamari”. By far, their best yet! $14 ($2 off during happy hour).

Super delicious and artfully presented, I easily and happily ate the whole thing. It’s adorned with beautifully blistered shishito peppers, roasted peanuts, fresh lime, etc. Includes sides of a tasty, sweet chili sauce and a savory peanut sauce. A very nice Asian inspired spin on calamari that’s not over the top.

1440 Bistro and Bar

Outstanding fish & chips at the Embassy Suites in El Segundo! Hot, crispy and love those waffle fries. One of my favorite things to order at 1440 Bistro and Bar.
